Full Licence
We're not American, so it's always spelled with a 'C' - Licence.
The list below shows the elements required to obtain a full motorcycle licence:
- CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)
- Motorcycle Theory Test
- Module 1 Practical Test
- Module 2 Practical Test
Module 1 is an off-road motorcycle manoeuvring test that normally takes about 15 minutes and is carried out by a DVSA examiner.
Module 2 is an on-road test where a DSA examiner will follow you for approximately 30-40 minutes and assess your ride.
Successfully passing both modules gains you a full motorcycle licence.
There are different types of motorcycle licences available depending on your age:
- AM Licence (16+): Restricted to 50cc mopeds
- A1 Licence (17+): Restricted to 125cc motorcycles
- A2 Licence (19+): Restricted to motorcycles not exceeding 35kW (47bhp)
- Category A Licence (24+): Full unrestricted motorcycle licence
The total cost depends on the individual's ability and previous experience. Most people require approximately 15 hours of training to prepare for both tests.
There are no hidden extras for fuel, insurance, or equipment hire. Test fees are additional:
- Module 1 Test: £15.50
- Module 2 Test: £75
